I manage a pro shop and deal with a lot of beginner bowlers.I usual recommend the tornado bowling ball for them because it going to hook more than a house ball but still be very controllable and hit the pins harder than a plastic ball.Even if down the road they want a ball that hooks more they can still use this ball for dry lanes or shoot there spares.The tornado series include

The Tornados are great for beginners or if you need something for drier lane conditions. Everything you said was spot on!
